Atmospheric Black Metal from Iran
"This album shows a more stable equilibrium of raw and atmospheric variants of black metal, with less experimental bursts, or even lacking that side entirely and where noise was inhibited. This is not merely an album of personal nihilism or abstract suffering, it represents the anguish of a nation trapped between violence and internal decay which transform the album into an elegiac lament for innocent lives whether political, ideological or theological. Gustave Doré and the story of Esther casts a biblical shadow across the album, breathing with the sense of cyclical devastation where sacrifice is far from sacred but instead institutionalised, and endlessly inevitable. The folk tar elements are more sparingly used than on the previous release and become all the more vigorous due to the lack of noise. They surface on the intro and reappear midway through the sixth track carrying an ancient and mournful beauty that contrasts sharply against the surrounding chaos. This middle easterner flavour is interwoven with the Persian poetry (Omar Khayyam, Hafez Shirazi and Nasir Khusraw)" ~ Mao da Gloria
